Daily Drawing: Day 2Today I didn't make the same size mistake as I did yesterday. My paper was 4 1/2 x 5 1/2. So I made to opposite mistake. I think this is actually too small. But, I have 3 more pieces of paper this size so I will see what comes of it over the next couple of days. Maybe it will grow on me. Anyway getting to this drawing. It was fun and not as long as the last one. I have been exploring what I would imagine as floating cityscape would look like for a while. This is definitely still inline with that. I really like the play with "weight" that I have been getting to. In the hanging "rooms" on the bottom of this piece. Also all of them need multiple ways to get into it. That lets me play around with what a bridge could be also which is fun. The towers or spires on the top are ok. I think this is where the paper size really hampered what I wanted. I naturally made it small so I didn't accidentally push the edge of the canvas. But I definitely want those towers to be taller and have more walkways between them.
I saw the heart shape on the main structure very early in the drawing about 1/4 of the way in. I decided to keep it. Probably because on my own current longing for love more than anything else. As you look around the composition it can be seen influencing the rest of the negative space also. But I fought the urge to fill this with hearts (gross). I did manage to keep things lighter today and only had darks more or less where I wanted them. It is hard to keep all the lines as thick as I want and still move around quickly. The nib of the pen will dig into the paper quite often and pull up some paper. That usually results in my next line being thicker than I expect. I am getting more comfortable with it though. So soon I'll start messing around more with pressure and see what and where that takes me. See you tomorrow! Here is the link to the video! P.S. I hate my signatures so far. They look just awful. I need to figure out what im doing with that asap.
